Every Child Matters:  Make a Positive Contribution

Pupils build upon year 7 Citizenship by studying at the effects of crime in their local area. Pupils learn about the duties and powers of the police and reflect on their own views of the authority.

Pupils learn about the role of government and how they could become involved in local government.

Pupils learn about animal welfare and the cases for and against captivity.

Pupils learn about the role, importance and impact of charities and voluntary groups.

Zoos: Good or bad?  Extended writing.

Sex & Relationships

Every Child Matters:  Be Healthy & Stay Safe

Pupils learn about the effects and consequences (both social and legal) of prejudice, specifically racism and homophobia. Pupils also develop strategies to cope with changing emotions and how to cope with loss.

Cyber Safety

Pupils consider the positive and negative uses of computers, mobile phones and the internet. Pupils learn how to keep themselves ‘cybersafe’.

Drugs Education

Every Child Matters:  Be Healthy & Stay Safe

Pupils develop their knowledge of drugs and focus on the misuse of alcohol. They specifically look at the physical affects of alcohol and where to get help.

Personal Finance: Gambling

Pupils reflect on the reasons people choose to gamble. Pupils learn about the problems with gambling and if they choose to, ways to gamble responsibly. Pupils learn about support groups.
