Art

All students study Art at ks3 until the end of year 9. The topics covered at ks3 ensure all students have extensive knowledge skills and understanding of a variety of Historical and Contemporary Art related topics. These topics take into consideration changes in society, culture and world issues.

The department have been highly commended on Assessment For Learning skills by Ofsted. AFL takes into consideration all the different types of learning styles and ensures all students regardless of ability are provided with the tools and skills to achieve to the best of their ability. At the end of year 9 students have the option to continue Art to G.C.S.E level. Students are expected to work independently and develop their own areas of interest to study whilst being guided. Students are expected to attend extra Art lessons at lunch and after school. Students visit galleries and every year students attend the Manchester Metropolitan University Degree and Foundation shows. This highlights possible career pathways.

The department offer a number of lunchtime and after school activities such as Pottery Club and Jewellery Club as well as other workshops. Long term projects are also run after school such as the Urban Graffiti project. This project ran over 8 weeks and involved students from all years. The aim was to allow students to design, paint and complete a Mural along the Art corridor. They named the project Raw Talent and it was a huge success.
