Geography

In the lower school all students take Geography and follow the National Curriculum Key Stage 3. In both Years 10 and 11 – students choose a GCSE option – History, Geography and Health and Social Care are the main choices. Geography and History are no longer compulsory at Key Stage 4 although students are encouraged to take a Humanities subject.

Resources

A wide range of resources are available:

  • Wide selection of new text books
  • Use of audio equipment, cameras and video
  • Television and video equipment in each classroom
  • Computer suite (46 machines which are part of the school network) with CD Roms available
  • Access to the school’s resource base
  • Spacious teaching rooms in its own refurbished building
  • A weather station and satellite system capable of receiving messages from all the northern hemisphere (located in the Learning Resource Base)
  • Wide range of temperature sensors, measuring gauges and other scientific equipment
  • Digital cameras, video cameras, interactive white boards and multi media projectors.
  • Access to the CLC

The department draws on experts from outside the school whenever appropriate.

The curriculum is reinforced by a number of residential and day visits. In the last 12 months the department has been involved in the following:

  • A traffic survey - Year 7
  • A field trip to Castleton
  • A field trip to Snowdonia – Year 10
  • A field trip to Malham
  • A field trip to Paris
