Mathematics

The maths department achieves Outstanding results at both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

In 2008 79% of students achieved level 5 or above at Key Stage 3 with 60% achieving level 6 or above.

In Key Stage 4 students follow the Edexcel mathematics GCSE. In 2008 74% of students achieved grades A*-C. Students in year 11 have already taken their mathematics GCSE with 68% achieving grade C or above. Students are now studying for either GCSE Statistics or resitting their Mathematics.

Our year 10 students are currently following the Edexcel Modular specification. They have just taken their first module with 80% achieving grade C or above.

High achievement has been achieved by a total commitment from both staff and students. Extra lessons and homework clubs are provided at lunchtimes and after school and catch up clinics are run during school holidays.

Our aim as a department is to deliver mathematics to the highest possible standard, enabling every student to reach their full potential. Students are encouraged to take part in extra curricular activities and achieve well in national maths challenges.
