The Creative and Performing Arts department incorporates the subjects of Art, Drama and Music. Every student studies these subjects until the end of year 9. Students then have the option of continuing these subjects at GCSE level. All three subjects run a wide variety of extra curricular activities.
Again
extra lessons are provided for GCSE students. The school offers
a range of instrumental lessons including strings, percussion,
woodwind, brass, keyboard and singing. Lunchtime and after school
clubs include Year 7 choir, Year 8-11 vocal group, string group,
wind band, steel bands and samba band. Students perform regularly
in public at the Rochdale Festival. In the last academic year
a highly successful summer production of “Oliver” was run in conjunction
with Drama. GCSE students have also visited the theatre to see
productions of “Miss Saigon” and “Chicago” and have been involved
in workshops with visiting musicians.
