Physical Education

P.E. is a compulsory subject for all years 7 to 11. Students in key stage 3 have two lessons per week while those in key stage 4 have one.

Students coming in to year 10 can opt to take GCSE Physical Education, which has three lessons a week. The course is a very popular and successful option and includes 60% practical work and 40% theory. Our students cover the main activities of games, gymnastics, athletics and Orienteering with the major team games included.

Furthermore the department runs a varied and extensive programme of extra activities at lunchtime and after school including recreational club and school teams in football (boys and girls), Netball, Basketball (boys and girls), Rugby, Cross-Country, Rounders, Cricket and Athletics. Also, the department is in the process of implementing some new awards and courses such as The Sport Leader award level one and possibly the Duke of Edinburgh.

The department consists of 4 dedicated and enthusiastic full time specialists and one teaching assistant/technician.

Our facilities have been drastically improved, with the opening of our new sports hall which will allow the department to extend its provision of PE to all our young people.
