Gifted and Talented
Student Voice Project: Challenge

In order to discover more about how our gifted and talented students feel about how they are challenged in lessons, a working party of 15 students from years 8 - 10 was set up to research the topic.

The project began with 6 of the chosen students visiting the North West Student Voice Conference in Bolton, at which they discovered more about what student voice is and how it has been implemented by the students in other schools. Following this, each year group worked within a team of 5 to identify which subjects they would focus their research upon and how they would go about identifying the level of challenge they would receive. Finally, a presentation evening was held where the students provided a formal presentation summarising their research and findings to a selected group of teachers and senior staff.

The project has proven to be a valuable learning experience for staff and students alike; with staff now enthusiastic about finding ways to develop the level of challenge in their lessons, and students realising that their voice has made a difference.
